I acquired this approximately 427‑year‑old painting from an antique dealer in 2019. At the time, it was in an extremely fragile condition. The canvas was so delicate that even the slightest movement risked causing areas of paint to crack, detach, and fall away like snowflakes. Its condition demanded patience, restraint, and deep respect for the history held within every remaining layer.

Years of Research, Patience, and Precision

Before beginning treatment, I spent months researching the safest and most appropriate methods for handling such a vulnerable historic work. From 2019 through 2026, I worked continuously on its conservation—typically four hours a day, five days a week, often extending late into the night. Every stage required careful observation and a willingness to move slowly, allowing the painting itself to determine the pace of the restoration.

Francesco was killed in 1598, apparently after being struck and his body thrown from a balcony or window at the family castle—staged to resemble an accident. Beatrice was arrested, interrogated, and eventually confessed under extreme pressure. She was publicly beheaded at the age of 22.
